Man Killed in "Fatal Workplace Accident" in Region

The Upshur County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal workplace accident that occurred at Appalachian Forest Products in Buckhannon. On June 9, 2026, at approximately 3 p.m., deputies responded to a report of an industrial accident at the facility. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located Michael D. Martin, 73, of Mannington, who had sustained fatal injuries as the result of the incident. Martin was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. The Upshur County Sheriff's Office is working in cooperation with appropirate workplace safety and regulatory agencies to determine the events that led to the incident.
The Sheriff's Office extends condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of Martin during this difficult time.
