Mulan Jr.

Disney’s Mulan, Jr. an ancient tale of girl power Morgantown Theatre Company production opens at Met March 17 Morgantown, W.Va. – The culture and traditions of imperial China come alive in Morgantown Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s Mulan, Jr., a thrilling legend of honor, destiny, and a daughter’s love.

A tale beloved by Disney fans of all ages, Disney’s Mulan, Jr. is a heartwarming and inspiring musical adventure brought to life by a troupe of young Morgantown area actors, singers, and dancers led by Morgantown Theatre Company executive/artistic director Hillary Phillips. “The hard work put into this show by every performer and crew member shines because the ensemble really comes together as a unit,” Phillips said. “In the months leading up to a show, the kids help and support each other like a family would. They don’t want to let each other down, and that’s a big part of the story of Mulan: loyalty to the people close to you.” Disney’s Mulan, Jr. opens as headstrong young Mulan rejects the plans of her village's matchmaker, bringing dishonor upon the people she loves most. As her country and its people are threatened by the fearsome Huns, brave Mulan runs away from home to restore her ailing father's name and fight with the Emperor's army, disguising herself as a man. Aided on her journey by the small, mischievous dragon Mushu, Mulan struggles with her identity as she fights to save China and its Emperor. Based on the 1998 Disney film favorite Mulan, Disney’s Mulan Jr. celebrates the beauty of an ancient civilization while emphasizing the importance of love, loyalty, and strength of character. Disney’s Mulan, Jr. opens at Morgantown’s Metropolitan Theatre on Friday, March 17, with repeat performances through the weekend. Show times include: • Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. • Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. • Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. Tickets for each performance are priced at $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets are available through WVU Arts and Entertainment’s box office and Ticketmaster. Please note that ticket prices do not include a $2 venue fee, Ticketmaster fees, or taxes. Mulan Jr. is appropriate for children and features the music and lyrics of Matthew Wilder, David Zippel, Stephen Schwartz, Jeanine Tesori, and Alexa Junge. Disney’s Mulan, Jr. is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. Since 1998, Morgantown Theatre Company (MTC) has provided school age children a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of theatre arts activities. While learning to act, sing, and dance, MTC students develop behind the scenes skills that encourage self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility, problem solving, communication, and leadership. Information and interviews: For more information, call Leigh Limerick at (304) 960-0813 or email info@morgantowntheatrecompany.org. Performers are available for interview by request, but require reasonable advanced notice.
