West Virginia Public Theatre presents ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’

Stephen Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is the perfect comedy to open the West Virginia Public Theatre’s 32nd summer season. Stephen Sondheim’s musical has made its way through Broadway, the West End of London, and now, finally, West Virginia Public Theatre will produce A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum for the first time in its history. The musical will play at The Historical Metropolitan Theatre in downtown Morgantown from June 30th through July 10th. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a vaudevillian musical set in ancient Rome about a slaves journey to freedom. Pseudolus is a slave living in the suburbs of Rome with his master Senex and his family. One weekend when Senex is out of town his son, Hero, makes a deal with Pseudolus that if he helps him get the girl next door to fall in love with him he can have his freedom. What follows next is a story full of comedy, lies, love, and a story you surely cannot miss. An exciting musical by Stephen Sondheim, this classic piece of theatre will surely entertain adults and children alike!
